The VMI wrestling team hosted its 2018-19 season banquet on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Maple Hall Inn. In addition to comments from the coaching staff and the team’s seniors, four awards were handed out.

Cadet Luke Nicksic ’22 earned the Lifestyle Achievement Award. This award is presented to the cadet-athlete who goes above and beyond in representing VMI wrestling in the key areas of academics, athletics and social life.

Cadet Max Gallahan ’20 was named the Most Improved Wrestler. This award is given to the wrestler who shows the most improvement from year to year or throughout a single season.

Cadet Will Lawrence ’21 earned the Coach’s Award. This award exemplifies what a coach looks for in an individual: Work ethic, dedication, leadership and a positive attitude.

Cadet Neal Richards ’19, red-shirt junior, took the Most Outstanding Wrestler Award. This award is given in honor of the wrestler who performs the best throughout the regular season and carries that success into the post season.

VMI finished the 2018-19 regular season in fourth place in the Southern Conference standings with a 3-3 record, the program’s best league mark since the 2006-07 campaign. The Keydets defeated Davidson, Gardner-Webb and The Citadel in dual-meet action under Jim Gibson, first-year head coach.
