The VMI Athletics Kickoff Party began the new VMI athletics season with a gathering of more than 130 Keydet fans Sept. 6, 2024. Attendees included Keydet Club members at the Letterman, All-Conference, All-American, and Hall of Fame leadership levels who generously supported VMI athletics in Fiscal Year 2024.
Held in Marshall Hall’s Hall of Valor, the evening included refreshments, a live band performance, and time for connecting with fellow VMI athletic supporters. Those in attendance were greeted by Andrew Deal ’12, Keydet Club chief operating officer and Alumni Agencies chief development officer, and heard from Danny Thornton ’78, Keydet Club Board of Governors president; Jamaal Walton ’07, VMI’s new director of intercollegiate athletics; and Danny Rocco, head football coach. Also joining the celebration that evening were Maj. Gen. Cedric T. Wins ’85, superintendent, and his wife, Cassandra Wins.
The first-of-its-kind event was a hit with Keydet Club supporters and reinforced the energy building toward another year of Keydet athletics. “With the VMI Athletics Kickoff Party, we wanted to express our gratitude to our Letterman and above leadership-level supporters for their amazing support for VMI athletics with a memorable and fun night,” said Deal. “It was a great way to start the 2024 football season with great food, a live band, and fellowship.”
