Drew Menges ’25, VMI men’s soccer defender, was named to the College Sports Communicators Division I Academic All-District Men’s Soccer Team for his efforts on the field as well as in the classroom Nov. 21, 2023.
Menges, an engineering major, was one of four Keydets to play all 19 games and had 15 starts in the backfield. The Fallston, Maryland, native scored a goal at Mary Baldwin University and was third on the team with 1,292 minutes.
“I am thrilled to learn of Drew being recognized for his accomplishments in the classroom,” said Nick Regan, VMI head coach. “Being an engineering major is difficult enough, but to perform like he has, on the field and in the classroom, it’s a testament to Drew’s attitude and work ethic.”
The last time the Keydet men’s soccer program landed a student-athlete on the all-district team was Daniel Welsh ’10 in 2008.
All-District honorees are based on the criteria below:
- Academic standing:
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Student-athletes must be enrolled at their institution at the time of nomination either as undergraduates or graduate students. Only the school at which an athlete competed in the current academic year can nominate that player. - Academic eligibility:
An undergraduate student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) - (New) Athletic eligibility:
Fall sports (men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, football); student-athletes must compete in 90 percent of the institution’s games/contests/sets played or must start in at least 66% of the games/contests/sets
Academic All-District® honorees are considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early December. The CSC Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed on the following pages.
