The Keydet Club held the 2024 VMI Football Reunion Aug. 2–4, 2024. The weekend brought over 130 football alumni and friends, spanning from the Classes of 1959–2024, back to post to reconnect with former teammates and members of the VMI football family.

The weekend began with a round of golf at the Lexington Golf & Country Club, followed by a cornhole tournament and a welcome reception at Moody Hall that evening. At the reception, alumni connected with each other and the larger VMI football family, met the Keydet staff, and heard from Danny Rocco, head coach, as he heads into his second season with the Keydets after being named a finalist for the 2023 Eddie Robinson National Coach of the Year Award. Alumni also had a chance to meet Jamaal Walton ’07, VMI’s new director of intercollegiate athletics, who also gave remarks that evening.

The next day, alumni watched an open practice in Fiorini Field, sat in on team meetings, lunched in Crozet with the team, competed in the cornhole championship, and enjoyed a BBQ dinner to close out the day. On Aug. 4, the final day culminated with a breakfast hosted by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in Marshall Hall – Center for Leadership and Ethics.

“It is always great to have VMI football alumni back on post for a weekend like this to see and connect with coaches and current cadet-athletes,” said Andrew Deal ’12, Alumni Agencies chief development officer and VMI Keydet Club chief operating officer. “This weekend gave members of the VMI football family a sense of the energy in the program today. It’s also meaningful for the current cadet-athletes to connect with alumni.”
