Winning fourth and fifth place, respectively, the VMI men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams had a shining finish to close the 2025 Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by VMI at the Corps Physical Training Facility Feb. 28–March 1, 2025.

Women’s Team
Highlighted by two gold medal finishes by Eleyah Armstrong ’25, the women’s team placed fifth overall with 70 points. The Samford Bulldogs finished first with 163.5 points. The Wofford Terriers finished with 119.5 points for their fourth runner-up finish in five seasons. Furman was third with 115 points, and Western Carolina finished fourth with 88 points.
Samford won its record 10th straight women’s title and its sixth straight men’s title.
Women’s All-Conference Finishes
- Armstrong won the 60-meter dash for a third year in a row with a time of 7.42 seconds, then proceeded to win the gold in the 200-meter with a time of 24.33 seconds, shaving over a second off her 2024 time for the event.
- Reagan Gilman ’28 earned All-SoCon honors by placing third in the 800-meter finals in 2:13.42, breaking her own school record time set yesterday in the prelims when she earned a fifth-place time of 2:14.82. Both marks broke the previous VMI school record held by Kelsey Newcomb ’16 set at 2:15.29 in 2013.
- Shea Hart ’26 placed third in the 60-meter hurdles finals to earn All-SoCon recognition with a time of 8.65 seconds.
- Naturale Faison ’28 earned All-SoCon in the 60-meter finals by placing third overall in 7.66 seconds for a new personal record.
- Morgan Fraser ’27 achieved All-SoCon honors in the high jump by tying for second place with Wofford’s Sherika Christie at a height of 1.65 meters.
Women’s Excellent Finishes
- Faison came in sixth in the 200-meter finals in 24.80 seconds, and SeMore Green ’26 arrived in eighth in 25.36 seconds.
- Diamond Baker ’26 came in seventh in the shot put at 11.67 meters.
- The DMR team of Natalia Dias ’28, Heaven Hall ’26, Evelyn Anderson ’27, and Jillian Sisk ’27 placed fifth overall in 12:41.75.
Men’s Team
On the men’s team, VMI was fourth with 74.5 points. Samford scored 177 points for its sixth straight conference title to outdistance runner-up Western Carolina, which scored 167. Furman was third with 109.

Men’s All-Conference Finishes
- VMI secured 16 points in the men’s 400 race, with Nick Brown ’25 placing first and Anthony Wilkerson ’28 placing third as both earned All-SoCon honors for the event. Brown won the gold in 47.66 seconds, and Wilkerson earned a PR in 49.02 seconds.
- The 4×400 relay team of Wilkerson, Ben Hagerich ’26, Xander Topos ’25, and Rye Jackson ’28 earned All-SoCon honors by placing third in 3:19.93.
- Cameron Thomas ’27 also earned All-Conference recognition in the pole vault by placing third with a clearance of 5.00 meters.
Men’s Excellent Marks
- Kevin Shank ’27 placed fifth in the 5000m in 14:45.29.
- Destin Moore ’27 finished fourth in the 60-meter finals with a new PR time of 6.93 seconds, and Kevin Koumondji ’28 finished a split-second later in fifth in 6.97 seconds.
- Brown placed fifth in the 200m finals in 22.36 seconds.
- Rafe Clendenin ’27 placed sixth overall in the weight throw with a distance of 15.91 meters.
- Grant Fraser ’28 placed sixth in the high jump at 1.78 meters.
