More than 200 people gathered in the Hall of Valor in Marshall Hall the evening of Friday, Jan. 24, for the inaugural First Pitch Dinner, held to kick off the baseball season and welcome Keydet fans and supporters.
Among those attending were Jamaal Walton ’07, VMI director of intercollegiate athletics; Sam Roberts ’11, VMI baseball head coach; Mike Lamore ’85, Lamore Field benefactor; and Josh Winder ’19, former pitcher for the Minnesota Twins and a current member of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Cadets Grayson Fitzwater ’26, Nathan Hawley ’25, and Boston Torres ’28, all current players, participated in a cadet panel with attendees.
“The First Pitch Dinner, although the first of its kind for VMI baseball, served to be a successful evening of camaraderie, reflection, recognition, and philanthropic support with all proceeds from the event benefiting the VMI baseball program,” said Andrew C. Deal ’12, VMI Keydet Club chief operating officer and Alumni Agencies chief development officer.
