The latest alumni town hall meeting was held April 6. Thom Brashears ’95, VMI Alumni Association chief operating officer, hosted the meeting. The town hall meetings are via a webinar format, which allows a larger number of participants—more than 100 people listened to the April meeting. The webinar format does differ from other types of Zoom calls; participants can view a list of other listeners but do not see each other’s faces.
Maj. Gen. Cedric Wins ’85, interim superintendent, gave several updates about VMI. He began with the good news about the football team, which is ranked in the FCS Top 20.
Wins provided updates about COVID-19, Corps activities, academic classes, rank selection, graduation plans, the state-directed equity audit, the diversity officer search, the honor system, and the VMI brand. He answered several submitted questions and was followed by a historical presentation. Col. Keith Gibson ’77, VMI Museum System director, talked about the history of honor at VMI.
The next town hall meeting is scheduled for May 4, 2021, at 6:30 p.m. Reminders are emailed a few days prior to the event. For questions, contact Brashears at tbrashears@vmiaa.org.
