After a stellar season both in competition and in the classroom, 25 VMI fall cadet-athletes were recognized by the Southern Conference and named to its Fall 2021 Academic All-SoCon Team announced Jan. 20, 2022.
To be named to the team, the athlete must be a sophomore or above in class standing and hold at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average. Another separating factor is that the athlete must participate in at least 50 percent of his/her team’s respective contests or meets.
The football team led the way with seven selections, while women’s soccer had six honorees. The Keydet men’s cross-country squad yielded five recipients, while the women’s cross-country team had four selections. The men’s soccer team had three cadet-athletes named to the team.
Throughout the Southern Conference, a total of 425 student-athletes were selected, a new fall record. A total of 37 athletes own a perfect 4.0 GPA, also a new benchmark for the fall season.
